Mainstream Movies
This post is nothing more than a simple rant on the subject of mainstream movies. Those not interested in a rant should move on. Quickly.
Okay, why is it that every movie these days draws from the same tiny talent pool? There are so very many skilled actors and actresses out there - likely many of them are working in a coffee shop near you. But breaking through into the big time is something that so very few of them ever do.
Then for (what seems like) all of eternity, a few people keep marching around on the big screen (and the little screen also) making us laugh, smile and cry. They hog all the attention, and make the big bucks. All the B and C listers don't have a chance.
Why is this? Well, simple economics unfortunately. It makes economic sense for the producers to pay for the big name stars, as they draw the attention, fill the seats and grab the eyeballs. That doesn't mean that any particular screenplay would be worse using lessor known talent. That is, the quality of the movie could be just as high. But still the big name stars get used, because in turn, they bring the bucks.
I hope this will start to change, what with the Internet making it easier for independent film producers to market and distribute their wares. I, for one, prefer movies with lesser known actors. If I haven't already seen this person a gazillion times, it makes the movie much better. For me, the big name stars already have too much of a story about them, which distracts me from what I'm watching and interferes with the new story - the movie or film.
Okay, back to the porn.
